“We were disappointed – but not surprised – to read in the News Journal that Delaware ranks 48th in the country when it comes to public integrity, with failing grades on transparency, accountability, and political financing.
“This report card is a challenge to every Delawarean. Our elected officials can and must do better, and we as citizens must insist on action. That is why Common Cause Delaware plans to work with citizens across the state to get action in the legislature in 2016 on the recommendations of Chief Justice Norm Veasey’s two-year-old report on the “soft corruption of Delaware’s political culture. We need to require political donors to disclose their occupations and employers to help prevent fraud, ban gifts to lawmakers from lobbyists and donations from limited liability corporations, and require professional lobbyists to pay ‘meaningful filing and oversight fees’ to help fund the Public Integrity Commission. That should help get our grades back up.”
And we were quoted in the Delaware State News.
