It is no exaggeration to say that getting money out of politics is one of the most pressing issues of our time. If we can’t solve that problem, our entire way of life as a self-governing republic is doomed. Big Money takes sovereignty away from citizens, which is just another way to say it destroys democracy.
Right now we have an activist Supreme Court that has imposed its own distorted definition of democracy on the U.S. Constitution, a definition that profoundly confuses the economic system of capitalism with the political system of democracy. In short, a slim majority of unelected Justices is giving free reign to those who have made a killing in the market and allowing them to have more power than the rest of us.
These rogue Justices must be stopped, and the only way to do that is through a constitutional amendment that reestablishes American citizens as sovereign and able to pass campaign finance reform legislation that protects equality and evens out the playing field when it comes to free speech. The people’s voices should not be drowned out by high-priced megaphones!
